Macromiidae (cruisers)
NL: Prachtlibellen | DE: Flussherrscher | FR:

Similar in size to Aeshnidae and Cordulegastridae. These large dragonflies are usually seen flying fast over their territory, usually rivers or lakes. Macromiidae share characteristics with Corduliidae and are considered a subfamily by some authors. Europe hosts only one species: Macromia splendens (Splendid Cruiser), in southern France and Iberia.
