Macromiidae (cruisers)
NL: Prachtlibellen | DE: Flussherrscher | FR: Macromiidés

Similar in size to Aeshnidae and Cordulegastridae. These large dragonflies are usually seen flying fast over their territory, usually rivers or lakes. Macromiidae share characteristics with Corduliidae and are considered a subfamily by some authors. Europe hosts only one species: Macromia splendens (Splendid Cruiser), which is endemic to southern France and Iberia.
