Splendid Cruiser is a large dragonfly species endemic to rivers in southwest Europe. It’s the only European member of the family Macromiidae, a family that mainly includes North American and Asian species. Males tend to tirelessly patrol over their territory. Territories are held over calm sections of rivers that are often characterized by the presence of large rocks and trees on the river bank. Splendid Cruisers are seldom found perching.
