Aeshna grandis (Linnaeus, 1758) – Brown Hawker
NL: Bruine glazenmaker | DE: Braune Mosaikjungfer | FR: Grande Aeschne

Aeshna grandis (Brown Hawker) is a large hawker easily recognised by its unique colours: it’s the only hawker in Europe with a brown body and smokey brown wings. Blue and yellow markings on the abdomen are present but small and easily missed.
Brown Hawkers are common in Central and Western Europe and in much of Scandinavia except the extreme north. It’s rare or absent in much of Iberia, Italy and the Balkans.
