Aeshna viridis (Green Hawker) is a fairly large hawker found in Europe and northern Asia. While it’s rather common in much of northern Asia, European populations are rare and scattered. In western parts of its range, Green Hawker is strongly associated with peat bogs with large floating mats of Water Soldier (Stratiodes aloïdes).
Ovipositing or emerging between the serrated S. aloïdes leaves poses a high risk of damaging the wings but the larvae are well protected from predators as long as they lurk between the plants.
