Somatochlora alpestris (Alpine Emerald) is a small and dark Emerald that inhabits much of southern Scandinavia and the central and eastern European highlands (Tatra and Carpathian Mountains and the Alps). It breeds in acidic bogs in cold arctic and montane areas.
