Libellula quadrimaculata (Four-spotted Chaser, or Four-spotted Skimmer by its American vernacular name) is a holarctic species that occurs in all of Europe, northern Africa, east all the way to Japan and also in Canada and large parts of the USA. It’s abundant in much of its geographic range but becomes scarcer to the south. Breeding occurs mostly in standing water.
