Sympetrum danae (Black Darter, known in northern America as Black Meadowhawk) is a northern holarctic species that prefers cool climates. It’s a common species in northern Eurasia, becoming scarcer to the south. In the Mediterranean it’s rare and pretty much restricted to high altitudes.
