Sympetrum flaveolum (Yellow-winged Darter) is highly nomadic. It occurs in southern Fennoscandia, central and eastern Europe and east to Japan and Korea. In southern Europe it’s uncommon and restricted to higher elevated areas.
In western Europe Yellow-winged Darters are usually rare or absent, but after periodical large invasions from eastern Europe it can be rather common. The latest of these mass invasions took place in 2005 and the species has been declining in western Europe since then.
